Your membership dues are more than just a fee; they are the resources that will help us to:
● Host Community Walking Audits: Identifying dangerous intersections and proposing real solutions.
● Advocate at City Hall: Ensuring the pedestrian voice is heard in zoning and budget meetings, including the new City Engineering Department.
● Educate and Engage: Organizing events each year that bring neighbors and local leaders together toshare ideas and reimagine our public spaces.
● Help Our Neighbors and Communities: Organizing Shovel Brigades and neighborhood cleanups to directly improvewalkability in our city.
● Promote Housing Development: Encouraging Albany to build on Strong Towns principles to create moredevelopment, bringing down costs for Albany residents and make housing more affordable.
In 2025, we:
● Hosted a candidate forum for the 6th Ward Common Council Candidates
● Issueda candidate questionnaire for city elections
● Cohostedand moderated the NAACP Albany Mayoral Candidates Forum
● Advocated for pedestrian safety in the Washington Park Transportation & PedestrianImprovements Project
● Assisted in implementing pop-up traffic calming demonstrations in Washington Park
● Participated in a Strong Towns podcast about making cities more walkable
● Cohosted the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims
● Organized shovel brigades after snow storms to clear sidewalks and crosswalks
● Commented on plans to reintegrate the Harriman Office Campus into the city’s street grid
● Commented and advised on state plans to spend $200 million to revitalize downtown Albany
● Advocated for pedestrian interests in the I-787 project
● Advocatedfor and achieved permanent stop signs at the corner of Dove and ChestnutStreets
● Launched a petition to calm traffic on Swan Street
● Hosted social events to build membership cohesion
● Tabled at numerous local events around the city to build membership and raise awareness
